Alice Gamse, a graduate of the Maryland Art Institute, produced a line of handmade artsy brooches in the late 80s and early 90s, featuring works of well-known artists. This lovely pink pin features a detail of Girl-Friends 1916-18, by Gustav Klimt. The brooch's material appears to be paper and plastic, perhaps papier mache.

Alice Gamse sold her creations through her Baltimore company, Alice Creations, which was in existence from 1989 to 1994, though she may have continued selling her art jewelry after that year. She and her husband, Howard Gamse, traveled to museums and boutiques throughout the country to sell her jewelry. Her brooches are a wonderful example of late 20th century adornment art.
