1940s Elaborately Beaded French Evening Bag in Deep Beige
This vintage French evening handbag is covered with glistening deep beige glass seed beads - even on the frame and handle. The frame is decorated with a row of raised beaded rosettes. A matching rosette covers the medallion clasp, which flips up to open the bag. The inside is lined with goldentone sateen, with a pocket, and includes a small gathered coin purse. A stitched-on tag reads, "Made in France / Hand Made." The interior of the bag is remarkably clean, and I find no raveling or fraying of the lining. The same can be said of the small sateen coin purse. On the exterior, there a few loose beads here and there (meaning they are not lying flat), but I see no unraveling anywhere on the bag. Oddly, the only tiny flaw I see is a white bead that apparently was accidentally stitched into the front cover.
The bag measures roughly 8: across and 5-1/2" high, not including the handle. is about 11" long. The frame measures 1" across; the clasp medallion measures 1-1/5" across.
